The basic problem of the groundwater in the Bandung Plain is the over-extraction of groundwater from the aquifers. This has resulted in a dramatic lowering of the phreatic (unconfined) groundwater table with shallow wells falling dry, a reduction of the yield of deep wells and subsidence of the ground level at certain places. The subsidence in turn has aggravated the flooding and drainage problems in the Bandung Plain. This report (2010) is written in the framework of component B3 of the project Institutional Strengthening for IWRM in the 6 Ci-s ICWRMIP (TA 7189-INO).
