About ICWRMIP Investment Program
Citarum River has been declared as one of the nationally strategic river basin territories. The Citarum supplies 80% of raw water demand of the capital Jakarta. The river also provides its water sources for 28 million people and 20% of the country’s total industrial output. Citarum ‘s tributaries have been under an increasing pressure over the last 20 years stemming from the growing rate of urbanization and industrial expansion, which contributes to serious water pollution, acute water crisis and decreases of groundwater level in several areas.
To rehabilitate and improve water resources management in Citarum River Basin in an integrated way, the Government of Indonesia in cooperation with Asian Development Bank (ADB) and a number of stakeholders (academicians, NGOs, private sectors and the public) sets up a river rehabilitation investment program named Integrated Citarum Water Resources Management Investment Program (ICWRMIP). This investment program is aimed at engaging all parties to cooperate in a participatory process in managing and dealing with issues related to Citarum River.
